Let’s get to it.
Best Small Bedroom Paint Colours
The best paint colours for a small bedroom depend on the look you want to create in your space.
Also, the best small bedroom paint colour will vary based on the room’s interior design and the décor and atmosphere in the rest of your home.
Let’s take a look at some of the most popular colour ideas for decorating tiny bedrooms:
Calming Colours for Small Bedrooms: Blue
Blue is my favourite paint colour for creating a calming look and feel in a small bedroom.
Blue is the most calming colour of all paint colours. There are various reasons why this is the case.
For starters, blue is often associated with nature. From the colour of the sky to the colour of the oceans, blue is synonymous with nature. And it’s this association that evokes a sense of calm.
Also, blue is considered a cool colour on the colour spectrum. Cool colours are typically the most calming and tranquil.
Finally, blue has a relatively low brightness level compared with other colours. The lower level of brightness creates a lower level of visual intensity, making it easier on the eyes and evoking a sense of calm.
So, if you want your small bedrooms to look as calming as possible, blue is a great choice!
But with a total of 23 actual shades of blue, it’s not always a straightforward choice.
Not to worry!
In the next two sections, I will share with you my favourite blue paints:
Nordic Sky by Dulux
- Matt
- Eggshell
- Silk
- High Gloss
Selvedge by Farrow & Ball
If you’re unfamiliar with Farrow & Ball, they are one of the most well-respected paint brands in the UK. They are known for producing high-quality paints, various colour schemes, and unique named colours.
Selvedge is my absolute favourite blue paint option from Farrow & Ball.
It’s a laid-back blue that has wonderful grey undertones. Using this shade of blue in smaller spaces adds a sophisticated and calming look to the space.
In my experience, it works best in smaller bedrooms where there’s not a lot of natural light. It works well in creating an inviting and warm bedroom look.
Light Paint Colours for Small Rooms
When you use light colours to paint your small bedrooms, you can transform the look and feel of your space.
Since light colours reflect light better than darker colours, small bedrooms transformed with light paint colours will look and feel larger than they actually are.
Also, bedrooms painted with light shades like white give off a cleaner and fresher appearance than darker colours.
Also, bedroom walls and ceilings painted with light colours create a neutral backdrop for the rest of your home decor.
In the next two sections, I will give you a few light-colour ideas that will work great in all types of homes.
All White by Farrow & Ball
When choosing a light, small bedroom colour, you’ll have a hard time finding anything as bright as All White by Farrow & Ball.
It’s the whitest shade of white from Farrow & Ball. And it contains no other pigment except white.
When you use it to paint the walls of smaller rooms like a bedroom, it gives a soft, bright-looking finish that adds so much energy to small spaces.
In my experience, All White gives the best results when you use it in colour combinations with darker shades, creating a sharp contrast between the colours.
Silent White by Little Greene
Silent White by Little Green is a refreshing shade of white with yellow undertones.
The hint of yellow in the paint creates a lovely, illuminated look in any room. And when you use it to decorate the walls of a small bedroom, it will transform the space to look and feel as bright as possible.
I love how this paint looks, but I’m also a huge fan because this paint contains virtually zero VOCs.
What are VOCs?
These are the harmful chemicals you find in pretty much every interior paint. It’s what creates that trademark new paint smell and can be harmful if you breathe them in for long periods of time (like when you go to sleep). So, it’s best to avoid them!
Luxurious Colours for Small Bedrooms
Choosing a warm and rich colour palette is the best choice when you want to give your small bedroom a luxurious feel!
These paint colours will give your space a rich and sophisticated look, no matter the size of the space.
In my experience, neutral and darker colours are the best options for creating this look in your interiors.
In the next two sections, I will share with you my favourite paint colour ideas for creating a luxurious look in your small rooms:
Jitney by Farrow & Ball
Jitney by Farrow & Ball is a neutral paint colour with brown undertones.
I really like this bedroom paint colour for creating a luxurious look in a small room.
The colour works so well in every interior space because the brown tone in the colour creates a rich and warm atmosphere that evokes a sense of luxury, comfort, and elegance.
Also, the paint colour is quite muted, giving off a timeless elegance feel.
Kendall Charcoal by Benjamin Moore
Kendall Charcoal is a rich charcoal grey that works well with various colours.
It works well at adding a sense of luxury to a space.
What Colours Make a Small Room Look Bigger?
If the goal for your DIY project is to make your small bedroom look and feel bigger, then the bedroom colours you use in your space will make all the difference!
Typically, light hues and cool colours are the best paint colours to make a small bedroom appear bigger.
To take it to the next level, pair the wall colours with white-painted ceilings and woodwork and place mirrors on your walls.
In the next two sections, I will give a good idea of what paint colours would work well in your small bedrooms.
Slipper Satin by Farrow & Ball
Slipper satin is a chalky off-white paint.
It takes inspiration from the colour of silk used in traditional ballet slippers – hence the colour slipper satin.
This bright and neutral hue works well for making a room look bigger and airier, giving the illusion of more space.
Seashell Grey by Valspar
Seashell grey is a pure pale grey.
The soft-grey colour helps to make a room look bigger by accentuating the natural light in the room. As a result, the space appears larger than it actually is.
Should You Paint an Accent Wall in A Small Bedroom?
- If you choose complementary colours for your accent wall, it can make your small room feel bigger than it actually is.
- Adding an accent wall is a chance to try out a bold colour option without fully committing to it by painting all the walls in your chosen colour.
- Since the purpose of the accent wall is to draw attention to just one wall, you should decorate the wall where your attention is naturally drawn when you enter the room.
- You need to choose a paint colour that complements the colour of the other walls, the ceiling, and the overall small bedroom look.
